Heavy rain is expected across a large portion of the South today and tomorrow.
Moisture continues to move along a stalled frontal boundary across the South, bringing areas of locally heavy rain during the day today.
An upper level trough will move out of the Southwest and across the South over the next couple of days, enhancing the chance of rain, bringing a threat of a few severe storms near the Gulf Coast, and eventually pushing the front off the East Coast bringing cooler temperatures to the Southeast.
Some showery weather returns to the region over the weekend.
Highs today will range from around 40 in northeastern Arkansas and northwestern Tennessee to the mid 80s in Central Florida, where a few record highs are possible.
The system bringing heavy rain to the South will bring wintry weather across the Northeast over the next couple of days.
Some snow showers will develop later today in northern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey, with a wintry mix or freezing rain possible near the Mason-Dixon Line.
As moisture and warmer air lift northward tonight through tomorrow night, precipitation will also move northward into northern New York and into New England.
As the surface low and attached cold front move through the region, precipitation will begin to change over to snow tomorrow night into Thursday.
The snow will transition to a lake-effect snow off the eastern Great Lakes on Thursday, with upper level disturbances bringing snowy weather to portions of New England.
Some more snow is possible over the weekend.
Highs today will range from the teens in northern Maine to the upper 40s in western West Virginia.
Strong onshore winds will continue to bring Pacific moisture into the Pacific Northwest, with heavy rain and mountain snow continuing.
Snow levels will be rising today, with warmer temperatures expected across the region.
The result will be melting snow both from warmer temperatures and rain falling on top of snow, which will lead to flooding.
Warming temperatures are also expected elsewhere across the region, thanks to an upper level ridge building over the region.
An upper level trough will move into the West Coast on Thursday and wipe out any warming by the end of the week across the region.
Some warming is possible again across the region over the weekend as another upper ridge builds.
Highs today will range from the teens in northeastern Montana, the higher elevations of the Colorado Rockies, and near Glacier National Park, to around 70 in portions of Southern California and southwestern Arizona.
Some light wintry mix and freezing rain is possible in the Ohio Valley, with some locally heavy rain possible in Kentucky today from the storm system over the South.
The wintry mix and freezing rain will change to rain late tonight then mix with snow before ending tomorrow.
Another weaker system will bring some light snow to portions of the Upper Midwest today and near the Great Lakes tonight.
Precipitation will change to a lake-effect snow by late tomorrow through Thursday.
More snow is expected across the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and Ohio Valley over the weekend.
Highs today will range from the single digits over northern North Dakota to around 50 in southwestern Kansas and southeastern Kentucky.
